Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020

99 Claudia Picton Claudia Picton has been often referred to as the most glamorous Head of Department many have worked with. She turned her hand to different things in her seven years at Brentwood School, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, school trips to Spain and a growing list of celebrity chefs visiting the School. Mrs Picton’s collaboration with science led to the introduction of an IB Food Science option, ensuring that we continually refresh our understanding of the curriculum’s relevance. Her love of teaching and passion for her subject inspired many. We wish her well as she begins her retirement. Dan Murphy Dan Murphy joined Brentwood in 2015 and soon established himself within the Design and Technology Department and around the School. He became known for fostering and facilitating interest in the subject and by giving relentless after-school support to pupils with their coursework. Mr Murphy was a key figure of the Senior Football set-up, managing the 3rd XI, 4th XI and Under 15B teams and was a part of over 100 fixtures. We would like to thank him for his huge dedication and commitment to Sport and PE. A reliable member of staff, he was also part of many Football tours abroad and other school trips with the Classics, German and History Departments to name a few. Mr Murphy was actually a part of all five Houses at some stage, including time as an Assistant Head of House in Weald and West, and leaving as an outstanding Head of North House. He is heading to Dubai for a new adventure, joining an outstanding school and we wish him all the best in his exciting next chapter. CHarlie Wakeling Charlie Wakeling was at Brentwood School for four years, teaching in both the Mathematics and Economics Department. He taught all year groups in Maths including IB and A Level and assisted students who wanted to study Economics at university. Mr Wakeling assisted in implementing the Water Polo programme from First Years to Sixth Form. He supported every water polo team in the league tournaments, offering advice and guidance from his own experiences. As he moves on to teach Maths at New Hall School we wish him the best of luck. Bryn Roberts Bryn Roberts joined Brentwood School in 2014, and was at the very heart of the Classics Department. He helped many Brentwood pupils to find joy and success in Latin, Greek and Classical Civilisation. His passion, kindness and humour was appreciated by pupils and colleagues alike, and Mr Roberts’ contribution to Brentwood stretched well beyond the classroom in his time with us. He was a committed Deputy Head of Year, an excellent Editor for the Brentwoodian and, being true to his Welsh roots, a passionate rugby coach and contributor to school choirs. Mr Roberts will be sorely missed at Brentwood, but we wish him every success as he takes on the role of Head of Classics at Burgess Hill Girls’ School. Tom Bourne Tom Bourne arrived at the Brentwood School Maths Department three years ago. He was involved with the Maths enrichment programme and took on the role of Maths IB Coordinator; furthermore, he was a great support to Sixth Form students, conducting mock university interviews and preparing pupils to take on STEP and MAP papers. Mr Bourne also contributed to the School’s swimming programme. Mr Bourne leaves Brentwood to become Head of Maths at Bryanston and we wish him the best of luck as he heads down to the south-west.
