Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
100 Christina Tsaknaki Christina Tsaknaki joined the Classics Department in 2016 and was a vibrant and passionate teacher who will be sorely missed. With her PhD from Cambridge, she was consulted on all complex linguistic queries in both Latin and Greek. She was always thinking of the next step for the Department, suggesting how we could be better and challenging our assumptions, and she always did this with passion as well as humour and sensitivity. Dr Tsaknaki was central in the enrichment opportunities provided by the Department, from mentoring numerous successful Oxbridge applicants to running a Classics trip to her beloved Greece. Always keen to be fully involved in school life, she also supported Bronze DofE and co- ordinated the IB Extended Essays, which she managed with diligence and expertise. She was also a very effective tutor in both Key Stage 3 and the Sixth Form team, and in the past year was a very valuable boarding house tutor in Mill Hill, not least for her Sunday morning pancakes and crêpes sessions (sorely missed by both the girls and staff)! Her pastoral care for our pupils was outstanding and her passion for School House and the boarding community notable. We wish her every success as she moves to Wycombe Abbey School, pursuing both her love of Classics teaching and increasing her boarding role as an Assistant Housemistress. Her new Department office will be better because she is in it; we will miss her, and her love of Harry Potter and Ovid, for a long time! Kathy North Kathy North joined the Modern Languages Department in September 2018 as a part- time teacher of German, French and EAL. A teacher of vast experience and expertise, her rigorous but friendly and very caring approach quickly ensured a productive rapport with her classes. Her lesson preparation, feedback and communication with parents to ensure the best possible outcomes for students were exemplary. Mrs North is very collegiate and never hesitated to step in where required: she brushed up her Spanish to be able to deliver the Language Development Course and produced resources for the many subjects she taught to share with the Department. She also played an important part in organising German BAC weeks. Mrs North now leaves us to enjoy retirement and many a long holiday in Germany and France. Our very best wishes go with her. Rob Dukes Rob Jukes led the Physics Department for four years and made a significant impact during this time. His passion for Physics and zest for life proved to be an engaging and dynamic combination and he will be sorely missed by students and colleagues. Mr Jukes was an active member of the Brentwood community, supporting and coaching the athletics programme, as well as contributing to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and excursions. He leaves Brentwood to adopt a role overseeing Physics teaching across the Harris Academy schools. James Moore James Moore joined the School in September 2019 and in his brief time here he had a significant impact on the education of the pupils he taught. He spread his love for ‘Isaac Physics’ problems across the Department and was at least the seventh best problem solver in the team! Mr Moore also showed a love of sport throughout the year and his rugby team remained unbeaten.... for the first week of term! Mr Moore will be hugely missed by the Department and will be a great addition to Stephen Perse as their Head of Department.
