Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020

105 Flora Shaul Ms Shaul became a Physics teacher for two reasons - firstly, to follow in the footsteps of an inspirational female Physics teacher of her own, and secondly, to blow students’ minds with the wonder of her subject. She has brought her love for and expertise in swimming to bolster the Brentwood swimming team, and enjoys road cycling and water polo in her spare time. At home, she loves playing with her black-and-white kitten, Herbie, and enjoying sushi while songs by Stevie Wonder play in the background. Her favourite film is Pretty Woman , though her favourite flavour of icecream is yet to be determined - they’re all too good! Favourite quotation Hakuna matata Advice for students Don’t compare yourself to others Lucy Reeder We welcome Ms Reeder this year to our PE Department; she hopes to impart her love for sport onto many a Brentwood pupil. We are also lucky enough to have her as our new Bronze Duke of Edinburgh coordinator - here’s hoping that we can keep up with someone so sporty! She developed her interest in teaching at university, and loves football so much that if she were to be stranded on a desert island, the one item she could not be without is her football! Her spare time is, naturally, occupied heavily with sport - but beyond this, she enjoys eating fajitas, watching The Cinderella Story , and listening to Brandz . Her favourite flavour of ice cream is Cookies and Cream. Favourite quotation Never let the fear of sticking out keep you from playing the game Advice for students Work hard, play hard Neil Turnbull The Business and Economics Department welcomes Mr Turnbull this year, who first set out to become a PE teacher, but ended up a fully qualified Head of Department in business instead. He joins us now, keen to kindle his students’ enthusiasm. He enjoys the fact that Business Studies prepares students for their future, and how the course content has direct links to whatever career they go into in the future; he is always pleased to hear about the successes of former pupils in their lives beyond school! Besides Business Studies, Mr Turnbull’s main joy is sport. Judo and football are his main pursuits but injuries over the years have led to him playing golf; he is a member of Orsett golf club and plays as often as work and family life allow. He also loves to travel, particularly enjoying sampling foreign cuisine - Thai red curry is above all others. But of course, his favourite activity is spending time with his wife, daughter, and dog called Snoopy.
