15 Venice When we first arrived, we had the opportunity to travel on the Vaporetto. All of us were able to observe the incredible architecture surrounding us and to truly experience the city on water. We were able to experience a selection of artworks from many different countries at the Giardini Della Biennale, an area of parkland in the historic city of Venice which hosts the Venice Biennale Art Festival, a major part of the city’s cultural Biennale. Personally, I found that the Biennale opened up my knowledge of modern art specifically, and it was interesting to see how different countries were pushing the boundaries of art. Part of the Russia exhibition was a mechanical ballet which combined the traditional with the new mechanical element. There was also a video piece in the Brazil exhibition which displayed traditional Brazilian dance. Video work was a prominent feature in the work I saw in Venice. It seems that many modern artists are working with the possibilities of sound and video, as observed in the Australian sector, which had a large circular room in which three different musical video pieces
