Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020

walking back through the gorge a small group noticed a cave at the top of the hillside and dared to venture towards it. The incline was ridiculously steep, and the climb was a challenge, but nothing was funnier than trying to get back down. We used the loose rocks to guide our gentle descent, a bit like skiing, making sure we kept our feet at an angle and “parallel”. Eventually, we made it back to the van, pumped up the tunes and headed to our final stop. The group clambered up a steep hill to find a steep drop below. It felt like we could see all of Iceland on the cliff edge, from the flatlands to the glacier peaks. Below us was a beautiful flowing waterfall laced with greenery and large boulders. It was incredible. Our final activity of the day was a visit to the Lava Centre, a new museum focused on earthquakes and volcanoes. The entire museum was fascinating and highly educational, whilst also fun and interactive. We wrapped up the day with a quick lesson back at the hotel, followed by dinner and then topped off with copious amount of laughs in the swimming pool.” By Matz Kiernan “The trip was amazing; as the only non- Geography student I was worried the trip wasn’t going to be as interesting for me as it was for the rest of the group, however, I was proved wrong. It was amazing. My favourite part was trekking up the glacier because it was an experience that many people in the future won’t have an opportunity to do, due to the rapid effects of climate change.” Zara Phillips “My favourite part was seeing Gullfoss waterfall and swimming in the secret lagoon geothermal springs.” James Willy “My favourite part of the Iceland trip was the epic jeep tour, trudging through tough Icelandic conditions and experiencing the delights of heavy Icelandic rap music!” Tom Ridgwell “I can only really describe the Iceland trip as a once in a lifetime experience. Our photos of the glaciers will never be replicated as when we go back they will have retreated even further. The jeep tour Highlights was brilliant as was the evening relaxing in the pool. We were lucky to have been accompanied by great teachers who made a brilliant trip even better. Being flipped by a local Icelander was also a personal highlight.” Will Steinberg “I had to leave the group briefly and waited at the bottom of Skógarfoss waterfall - and a miracle appeared, when a rainbow was glowing above mist under afternoon sunshine, a secret present for me.” Leonardo Li “My favourite part of the trip was the super jeep tour. Seeing how the landscape has changed so drastically in the last few years and getting up close to the site of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption made my trip. The excitement of being in the jeep itself and being hurled around made the day even more fun and memorable.” Daniel Hawkins “The best part of the trip was definitely visiting Mrs Carter’s secret waterfall. Climbing up and down on slippery rocks was risky but at the end of the day, it was definitely worth it. Looking up from the cave, the waterfall was magnificent! Without doubt, this was the best trip I had ever been on!” Ashley Li
