Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
25 Rugby Tour Ireland DAY 1 First we boarded the coach that led us to the airport and we bought various foods at the duty free shops whilst waiting for our boarding call. Once on the plane, we made our way to Ireland for what was to be a great rugby tour. Our feeling of excitement and readiness for ‘team bonding time’ was high. An hour later, we landed in Ireland, got onto the coach and the first ‘Tour Mascot’ was crowned: Jordan Williams. After a short transfer, we entered the beautiful city of Dublin and our first stop was our Travelodge to unpack. Unexpectedly we were welcomed with a lovely Full Irish Breakfast. Once we had done all of that, we headed to the High Street. After we had looked at the shops we decided to choose one of them to have lunch in. After lunch we headed back to the hotel and had time to relax and prepare for our match. When the match came around we were all excited and ready to take over Ireland. The first match for the A team started with a tough first half and we were truly confused when we had to adapt to Irish Rules and play lineouts and conversions. We were all pumped up when coming out of the first half two tries up and we proceeded to score even more in the second. Tries were scored by Fraser Forbes, Paul Adeniji, Isaiah Odunsi, Henry Herbert and Nathan Killilea. It was equally a great day for the ‘B’ team with many tries scored: 5 in total - 1 from Archie Stronach, 1 from Teddy Matthews, 1 from David Abraham and 2 from Joseph Babatunde. However, it was not that easy! The beginning of the first half was a challenge with a 5-0 lead to Seapoint. We did not give up ! Quite the contrary. We gathered our strength and team spirit to quickly bring the score to our lead. Although we have never practised conversions, we scored 2 out of 5. The final score was 29 points to Brentwood and 5 points to Seapoint. A good start for the B team. Well done team! Overall it was a great day and victory for Brentwood School and the English. By Toby Ellison, Fraser Forbes and Elliot Gibson DAY 2 We woke up after a long tiring day to a delicious breakfast at the Travelodge. We watched the matches ( England v Australia & Ireland vs New Zealand ). We got on a coach to go to the leisure centre for lunch, then set off for a tour of the Aviva Stadium. This tour was very interesting and factual, we learnt about the history, the construction and the Irish teams. The new ‘Tour Mascot’ was named: Charlie Boast will wear the costume for today. We then had some free time in the leisure centre and returned to the Travelodge for dinner and bed. It was a very interesting and fun day and we all enjoyed it. By Henry Herbert and Charlie Boast DAY 3 Our day started with a tasty breakfast ready for the eventful day. We started by watching the France versus Wales match in which Madame Roast was incredibly excited! We all supported her by joining in and singing “allez les bleus”! It was an amazing and close match with Wales winning by a single point. Madame Roast was devastated with the result. The next match was rather intense. The match was against South Africa and Japan. Mr Castleman was, of course, a strong South Africa supporter whilst Henry Herbert was rooting for the Japanese team. The match ended with South Africa beating Japan by many points. Henry was not happy with this result. Next we headed to the Guinness factory to see how and what this worldwide famous beer was made of. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to experience the beer tasting class! We enjoyed this experience of learning about this red velvet bitter. We headed to the shopping centre to have dinner before our evening entertainment at the cinema, watching the film Gemini Man which we all thought was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed the day but we were exhausted as we headed back to the Travelodge to have a good night's rest in readiness for another exciting day. By Torin De Silva and Ruben Amoako DAY 4 After a good night's sleep we woke up with a fresh scent of an English breakfast. We started by having a lovely tour of Dublin with a wonderful tour guide. It was exhilarating as we all learnt a traditional Irish sport known as Hurling. We had a little break at the best ice cream van that we had ever been to. We finished the tour with lots of pictures and a fun quiz for some Irish magnets. We then had a bit of a stop at the city centre for a quick lunch. Due to traffic we did not manage to train before the game, so we had a bit of free time in our room to get ready for the game. We arrived at the fixture determined to win. The B team started first having an exceptional game against their
