Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020

43 3rd VII During the netball season we have faced multiple difficulties however many great thanks are given to our coaches Miss Collins and Miss Foster who have consistently helped us throughout the season in order to become better players. As with any team we have had our share of ups and downs, winning and losing games. However, through this we have learnt to become better players and a better team. Some of our greatest achievements this season involved beating Chelmsford County High 19-4 and Chigwell School 27-9! We very narrowly missed out on a win against Forest School after Mrs Juniper sprinted across the field to stop the game. There have been outstanding performances from all players with almost everyone being awarded MVP at some point. We have supported each other well on court which has helped us to become a better team. A big thank you to all of the players and coaches of Brentwood 3rds! By Miss Collins U15A The U15A team has had a very successful season. We have improved immensely over the four years we have been playing together and have bonded well as a team, winning 11 out of 14 matches; with some being very tough we remained calm and continued playing strongly. I am extremely proud of the U15 ISNC team who reached the Independent Schools Netball Cup national final, playing St Helen’s and St Katherine’s. We played with great determination and put one hundred percent effort into this match, despite losing as they were one of our toughest competitors. Throughout the ISNC Cup games, Taaliyah Foster, Emma Willy, Hannah Knightbridge, Libby McLauchlan and Cynthia Asiegbu worked very hard defending the opposition’s circle. Sadie Wood, Olivia Carr and Hannah Knightbridge’s feeds became more and more accurate into the shooting circle as the matches evolved, whilst Valencia Danby and I received the passes and remained calm while taking the shot. I am especially thankful for the U14 players who were an amazing addition to the ISNC team and Miss Morrell, Mrs Juniper and Mrs Simpson-Crick. We could not have achieved what we did without their determination and time during every match and training session. By Isabelle Toms U14A Over the past months, our U14 netball team has gone from strength to strength. From being Mid-Essex champions to Essex cup finalists, we truly have developed to become both determined and talented players independently and collectively. We have ended the year with a successful scoring of 362 goals in total. Looking back we only lost one game across the entire season, which was against Berkhamsted. It was the most intense game of our season and we went into it with our heads down and being labelled as the underdogs. However this was not the case because by the second quarter we came out fighting and we realised that we could do this and thanks to Mrs Juniper’s and Mrs Simpson-Crick’s inspiring words we had the motivation we needed. The Headmaster and Mr Wignall came to watch the game! Without the amazing performances of Izzie Sawyer, Valencia Danby and Sophia Mitchelle on point shooting, Libby McLauchlan’s, Sophie Clark’s, Erin Young’s and Jess Philpot’s consistent centre court play and Olivia Carr’s and Cynthia Asiegbu’s tenacious defending we wouldn’t have been able to close the score down to two goals. Alongside all of our hard work, we could not have achieved this without the vital elements of teamwork and commitment to the squad. Our netball trip to La Manga was definitely an experience that we will remember. We had many fun and helpful coaching sessions from superleague players that taught us so many new skills that we developed into our gameplay. While enjoying the nice weather, we played many tournaments and matches against other schools. It was a very enjoyable trip, with so many memories that we will forever cherish. From the hard work in training to the awards disco at the end, La Manga is something we all learnt from and we hope to have another trip like that soon.
