Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
50 not reflecting the game. Following this disappointing result, we managed to bounce back from the defeat and win our next five games, all by significant margins. Sadly this fine form came prematurely to a halt due to the season ending early, but a sign of our continuous improvement throughout the season comes from winning our final five fixtures with an aggregate score of 29-5! The team had great camaraderie, lots of laughter and played some decent football along the way. This was reflected in our results. Throughout the season Mr Wingrove encouraged us to play from the back and to enjoy ourselves. Always trying to pass, pass, pass, combining class and determination, making us a difficult team to beat. Overall we believe our winning mentality was due to our great team spirit throughout the squad, which was also down to our coach Mr Wingrove by keeping us entertained through fun training sessions and maintaining a positive attitude throughout the season. We look forward to an even better season next year introducing more players from other teams and years. By Josh Argent, Joel Winter and Jack Cheek 4th XI The 2019-20 season was a superb season for the U18D team (the Mighty Senior 4’s) who went unbeaten from 28th September. With a 75% win ratio (the best record of any Senior team!), we lost only three games at the start, before a run of winning 11 out of 12 matches. Once Mr Wright had found the winning formula and created a superb team ethos, every opposition feared us, including teams we had lost to before. These victories included a 7-2 demolition against St Columba's College Boys’ U18 C team, but a highlight of our season was our game against Ibstock School on Wednesday 16th October. The result was a 15-0 victory. Every outfield player scored and star striker, George Lewis, bagged himself a hat-trick with the game finishing after just 48 minutes. Not every game was as easily won. On Saturday 12th October we found ourselves drawing at 1-1 at half-time against one of our great rivals, Forest School, but, a fantastic goal from top scorer, George Lewis, and a double from James Abbott resulted in one of our toughest wins in a 4-3 thriller. Our superb goal difference of 36 was down to numerous players. The deadly duo of George Lewis and James Abbott up-top combined to score 26 out of our 64 goals. Alongside these two, our breathtaking right mid, Emmanuel (Manny) Olaniyan, managed to get 7 goals and the magnificent Jonny Pearson bagged himself 4 goals whilst playing at centre- mid which included a stunning second half free kick winner after a Mr Wright tactical mastermind. We couldn’t have achieved this season without our defence - the anchors of Sam Pepper (Vice-captain) and Lewis Smith, whilst Michael Smith and Matt James ensured that our opponents had no real chance of scoring. Some superb GK performances (including mine!) produced the find of the season in the shot-stopper Austin Cooper! James Dowsett’s wonder- volley bagged the Goal of the Season award (narrowly beating the midfield maestro Louis Hardy) with Damilare Odelusi winning the Most Improved Player trophy after his incredible second half of the season performances. What a season, which sadly says farewell to the Upper Sixth goal-machine, Andy Zhang. A huge thank you to all the boys, and the tactical genius of Mr Wright, our coach; the 4’s this season was not only incredibly enjoyable, but we must have been right up there as one of the best 4’s in the country. Up the Mighty 4’s! By Ben Phillips 5th XI The mighty 5ths returned for the 2019-20 season with a series of solid results, seven wins, three draws and only four defeats. With a 3-1 win in the first match against Alleyn’s School, spirits were high and although a few losses were sustained in the middle part of the Michaelmas term, a 7-1 win against Westminster was an excellent way to top off the term before Christmas break. Although the team’s last loss was inflicted during the first match back, afterwards we remained unbeaten for the last four matches, with a 2-1 win at Bedford to finish the season.
