Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
54 a glimpse of hope came in the 45th minute from a great corner which was eventually poked in by Louis Turner. We trooped on, still two goals down and after some great build-up play Joe Payne finished on a nice swivel to give us a chance of the win. The game finished in a second loss for us in our season, however as a team, and thanks to our excellent supportive coach, we always look to improve as a squad. As mentioned, with a mix of bad weather and the unfortunate circumstances, our season was cut short which was very disappointing for the boys as we looked a promising side for the future. Overall it was a good season and something we can build on next year. By Joe Payne and Ben Rowbury U13C This season for the U13 team has been challenging and enjoyable and we have worked hard. With many debutants moving up from the D team from last season we all knew that we had to try our best to succeed in our matches and maintain our place in the team. Our first match against Wilson’s School, ended in a great performance and a convincing win by 13 goals to 1 . Up next was Bishop’s Stortford; this was a tough battle for both our mental and physical skills , however we narrowly lost 2-3. One of our more comfortable wins was against Bedford Modern School. We pulled through with an impressive score of 7-0 ( our first clean sheet of the season). Our final game against other schools was against Highgate. We knew that we really needed to fight for every ball having lost to the same team last year . We conceded inside the first minute but the team showed great character and played extremely well, winning 10-2. One of the highlights of our season was against the B team. Having been 1-2 down at half- time, some strong tackles by our defenders, great build-up play by our midfielders and goals from strikers, Thomas Kirolov and Asa French, helped turn the game around, winning 3-2. This was also a great result because before the game our coach (Mr Whetnall) promised us one Percy pig each if we drew and two if we won! He then gave them to us the following Saturday. The B team wanted a rematch the next Tuesday; this match was even closer than before; with the score 1-1 after full-time we went to the penalty spot to decide who was the winner. Unfortunately we lost 9-8 with some very well-taken penalties. Overall this has been a very enjoyable and tough season with us scoring 32 goals in four matches and only conceding 5. We have improved a lot since we have been coached by Mr Whetnall and are already looking at the fundamentals for next year. By Ellis Sooprayen, Joseph Babatunde and Elliot Gibson
