Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
55 U12A The U12A has truly enjoyed its first football season at Brentwood with the captaincy of Freddie Johnston. We had a tough start to the season losing our first game but then winning our second. However, we lost our next four games which was disappointing. With the pace of James Farrow and Sean Kuku we were able to create a lot of chances and with the help of Mr Miller (Head of football) we started to find our rhythm and with the clinical finishing of Dylan Johnson we were able to win our final few games. One of our biggest problems was our defence - however the combination of Beau Lambeth in goal, Sam Thompson at centre back with Alex Harvey at left back, and Ben Kelsey/Alex Roffey at right back proved an important factor in finishing the season with a flourish. A huge thank you to Mr Warburton who coached us excellently throughout the season! Here are a few quotes from our teammates Sean: “My favourite part of the season was where we played Highgate School because I scored a goal and we created the most chances." James: “ My favourite part of the season was where we played Wilson’s School because I scored even though I didn’t mean to but it was a great goal in the end" By Alex Harvey U12B The U12B football season was a success in many many terms but for me, the team’s best and proudest experience was the amount we learnt during the Lent Term football season. We all played to the best of our abilities and as Captain, I believe that the standard in the team has developed and come on greatly. We started off very fit and as the season drew longer, we improved our performance skills. Ayobami Akindele, our forward, performed amazingly throughout and I think that his speed was phenomenal. There are many positives to take from the season and, a key one of which would be the effort that the team put into the games and training to become better. I think a lot of us will progress and move into the A team in Second Year. Being Captain, it has been a pleasure to work with the team and see their standards. I think that everyone enjoyed the wet and slippery training session in the rain and it was good to see them having fun. This was a key positive to the season; having fun playing this sport. Everyone has performed exceptionally and there are many names to include. Rohan Hodivala played amazingly in the face of the net and produced some outstanding saves to save us from some defeats. The work rate of George Tapin in midfield was outstanding throughout the season and I would like to congratulate him for that. Max Kingsley, a key defender who joined in the middle of the season from the C team, blocked many shots and defended really well. These are just a few of the many names that performed well; everyone for that matter. Mr Harvey has to be thanked for his support and coaching and has helped everyone of us improve throughout the season. Overall, we have netted many goals, had an enjoyable time and really developed in our passing skills and back foot turn. This season has been a success for the U12B team. Thank you all. By Sam Kingsley U12C We had a good season although it was shortened this year. We played six games in total and won 3, lost 2 and drew 1. The draw against Whitgift was a particularly good result for us since Whitgift is one of the strongest schools that we play. This really helped to boost our confidence. We had lots to learn this season about the game and about playing together and some of us had more experience with football than others. This year we had a great group of boys who all performed to the best of their ability all season. Tade Asaolu in particular was probably our Player of the Season with two hat-tricks and our top goal scorer as well. Beau Lambert, with his goal-keeping skills, helped us win many of our games. He was an absolute hero in goal, making some outstanding saves but sadly his time in the C team was short as he went on to be the A team goalkeeper. After this we had Dylan Ariai stepping up to the plate and delivered at the back as goalkeeper. I have personally enjoyed being part of such a great team and playing with people that aren’t necessarily in my friendship group. Being Captain was such a privilege; we fought hard each game and I think that we bonded well and we reaped the rewards. Even though I might not have scored the most or played the best each game, being part of the team was enough for me. So now we look forward to next year’s season. By Ethan Roos
