Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
59 U14A This season was a huge success for us as an U14A team. We managed to win the majority of our matches throughout the season and one of our team's biggest and most proudest highlights included becoming Essex Champions at the Essex tournament held at Old Loughtonians Hockey Club. This fantastic result enabled us to progress to the Eastern Regional Final, held at University of East Anglia in Norwich. This was a fantastic opportunity for our team where we competed against other counties. We won two, lost two and drew one which saw us placed 3rd out of seven teams, narrowly missing out on qualification for the next round. Each season, we continue to prove our dedication to hockey which was demonstrated by our highly successful season. Our forwards, which include Amelia Horton, Ellie Merritt and Maddy Austin scored a number of goals, many of which were scored by Amelia Horton. We have also had individual achievements outside of school, like our midfielder Libby McLauchlan making it into the Essex squad for her first year joining our Captain, Maddy Austin. Our defenders also worked very hard this season by minimising our goals conceded. A particular highlight was the Essex tournament where we only conceded one goal throughout the competition with fantastic saves from goalkeeper, Evie Jarman. Flora Gunn is an example of how hardworking our team is, as she has come up from the B team and has proved herself to be a powerful defender. Throughout our season each player has improved their skills and game play which has allowed us to grow stronger as a team and take on more experienced teams. Even though this was our first time playing as an 11-a-side team we have all grown so close together that we all trust and know how each other plays. As a team, we would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Simpson-Crick for all her hard work and commitment to our team. As this was our second season with her as our coach, she already knew how each individual played and so she knew how to improve our skills most effectively. Without Mrs Simpson- Crick’s encouragement, we wouldn’t have made it as far as we did this season. Overall, we have all enjoyed this hockey season thoroughly and enjoyed the achievements that have come with it!! By Maddy Austin and Savannah Morrish U13D During the hockey season my D team has managed to play four hockey games, all of which Brentwood School has won. In my opinion, the goalkeeper is the star player, having only let four goals into the goal throughout all the games we have played. My favourite game was when I had to play on the opponents’ team for half the game and then I joined my team and it was really confusing for me to know who I was playing for. During this game I also managed to get the Player of the Match. When the game ended the score was 6-1 and this made our team really happy. Seeing all our games data makes me very happy as we have finished the hockey season with no losses or draws; also the fact that the goal difference between our team and all the other teams we have played is 15 and that is quite a big difference. In conclusion I think that the D team during this season has been really successful due to the teachers’ and the students’ hard work during practice and games. By Maesha Milki U13C This year has brought a great season of hockey for the U13C team! Even though it has been short, we have tried to fit in as many matches as possible. Unbelievably, with our brilliant team always progressing and putting in lots of effort in training too, we have managed to win all five of our matches. Our goalie, Grace Mernagh, managed to save as many goals as possible coming her way, always determined to stop the ball. She shows her enthusiasm throughout the whole game, and it travels all the way up pitch to our fantastic forwards! Our team also rotates a lot to ensure everyone has a fair amount of game, using great teamwork and taking things from training into our matches to have an optimistic mindset about our games, no matter how tough the opposition may be. Overall, we scored 23 goals, and only let in 4! This is amazing and we will continue to pursue the great work with the team when we come back to school. They have worked so hard this season, and the outcome has been great! Next year we are hoping to get back into playing, even with little match play; we work very hard in training and are all looking forward to getting back to school to start playing again!
