Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
60 U12A Reflecting on the U12A’s hockey season we have had an excellent and energetic time. We have played 11 hard matches giving it our all to be successful. Out of the 11 games, we won 8 and drew 3 leaving us with no losses which is an amazing achievement. Throughout our season we scored 39 goals over the 11 games - what an amazing achievement from our attack Sophie Dunlevey, Cara Castleman, Jemimah Knightbridge, Brooke Skinner, Elizabeth MacCallam and Sofia Toth. Thanks to our brilliant defence Sophie Young, Alyssa Wyatt and Laura Burke and our goal keeper (Daisy Strouts) we only conceived 10 goals. Leaving us with a goal difference of 29. Our most memorable game was on the 1th October when we beat Saffron Walden 8-1. One of our most challenging games was on the 5th October when we drew 2-2 to one of our main rivals, New Hall. This has been a great season and we hope to do even better in the future! By Jemimah Knightbridge U12B The season started at 9.30 in the morning on Saturday 14th September. We had only been at school for ten days but we faced Chigwell School with all the spirit of our new friendships. We powered through the match and won 6-0; this was the start to a season full of great victories for the U12Bs. The team helped all of us make friends as we all shared a love of hockey. We played a total of 10 games with an undefeated season, winning nine matches drawing one and scoring a total of 53 goals and only conceding 5, thanks to the team’s talented defence: Skye Lake, Amelia Murphy, Daisy Coe and our goal keeper, the Coach’s’ Player of the Season, Chloe Brown. I knew Chloe from preparatory school as a friend and noticed she was keen on the sport when we were very first taught it, however she used to play forward, the opposite of her current position. She always has an enthusiastic smile on her face on and off the pitch. Our best game was against Queensland when we won 9-0, even though our coach was at another fixture. This is when we all knew that we had truly gelled as a team. The team learnt many things like how to do a short corner properly, how to defend and take a 16 yard free hit. The most frequently awarded Players’ Player was Imogen Eastwood (me). I played right midfield and forward and contributed to the total goals scored. I wanted to mention one member of the team, Daisy Coe. She surprised me every day on the pitch and I relied on her in tense game situations. She plays left midfield and defence; she has the spirit for the sport and loves it just like me. The season ended on Monday 20th January at 5pm when the whistle was blown to end the last match. We walked away from the pitch happy with our 2-0 win and waiting - waiting for the next season to come. By Imogen Eastwood U12C It has been a great experience to play for the U12C team this year. Some of us (including me) have never even picked up a hockey stick before, but the improvement that the team and I have made throughout the year is amazing, and we couldn’t have done it without our fantastic coach, Mrs Ebden. We have had great training, and being able to experience the pride and excitement of visiting and playing other schools has been a memorable aspect of my first year here. We’ve won some and lost some, and even had some cancelled due to the weather! Many matches stand out to me, but our last match of the year against Alec Hunter Academy was very significant as in the first few minutes they managed to score a sneaky goal against us but later we went on to score another four goals! We have all formed new friendships with people we would never have known otherwise and being part of this team has certainly been a highlight of my year. By Gracie Coppell What a season for the U12C’s! Our players gave it their all the whole season round. Some great defenders, forwards, midfields, and, if I do say so myself, goalies. Our first sporting season of the year for girls being hockey, there is some stress with team bonding, as well as different levels of experience, that we managed to get over. As time went on, the team got closer. After our first few wins, we all realised each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which is deeply needed for a great team, the strengths on the team being Victoria Tyrer-Jolley’s amazing run up and down the pitch, Tabitha-Bea Mathieson’s and Sienna Dowsett’s strong slap of the ball, Louella Peers’ and Gracie Coppell’s recurring goals and so much more. I became a goalie at the start of the season and I can’t think of playing any other position. Of course none of this would have been such fun without Mrs Ebden, thank you so much; we all appreciate your excellent coaching! By Emily Davies
