Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020

62 U13A This season was very good for the U13A team. All of us developed a great deal, which will make our team better and better as the years go on. The reason this season was a very successful one is because we won 16 games, lost 3 and drew 0. Overall we scored 554 points, only conceding 177. This meant that our point difference ended with a ginormous total of +377 points. We also entered the Essex Rugby Union Cup for U13s. In that tournament we came 3rd out of most of the schools in Essex but unfortunately we lost in the last few seconds of the semi-final. The U13 rugby teams also had a great opportunity to go on a rugby tour to Dublin. During our time in Ireland we did some great things such as visiting the Guinness factory, playing two rugby fixtures against Irish sides, having a long tour around Dublin and also getting a private tour around the Aviva stadium. We cannot forget our coach, Mr Roberts, who we must thank for teaching us loads of new things on how to improve and make it to the next level. Sir always had a smile on his face, whether we won or lost and that really made the team’s spirit rise. We would have never accomplished what we did this season without him. By Nathan Killilea and Oliver Noble U13B In our season we developed as a side. We were not a big side at all so we developed a style of play that let us pass the ball through our backs. This meant that we made our ground over the pitch and were able to score many tries because of this. At the start of the season we didn’t gel as a team but then we sorted out our positions and put together a very good B team side. We started to win match after match, keeping our record going. We played 13 and we won 7, drew 2 and lost 4. At the end of the season we were a strong team who knew what we were doing and although we weren’t the biggest side we always hit our tackles. I think that overall we developed well as a team and formed a great side. By Archie Stronach and Ben Rowbury U13D I had the privilege to captain a great group of boys; not only were we talented individually but also a brilliant team. We won 6 games, lost 3 and drew 1. We saw some brilliant tries from Charlie Brennan, William Bell and Zane Egiebade with Taisei Katayama and Freddie Taplin providing us with pace on the wings. Alex Blee performed incredibly as scrum-half throughout the whole season. I was able to kick for the team. Charlie Brennan and Zane Egiebade moved up to the B team towards the end of the season. Kourosh Khorsid, Muhammed Ali, Kylan Athithan, Ruben Amoako, Patrick Osman and Daniel Green scrummed hard all season especially as it was our first season of pushing in the scrum. The standout game was our loss to Skinners’ because although we lost, we fought hard and got stuck in to try and keep up our winning streak. The standout performance was when Alex Blee offloaded to Charlie Brennan and he raced past two defenders to score our brilliant first try. I hope we can continue winning next season. By Jake Sedgley
