Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
66 Cricket Due to reasons out of our control last season became non- existent for our summer cricket programme. Luckily during the winter we were able to still prepare all of our students through the Winter Academy and for the first time the girls U13 team took part in the Lady Taverners competition. Our Cricket Winter Academy was thriving as it has been in previous years with over 120 students from across the School taking part in high quality cricket coaching on Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes and Thursday and Friday after school. Students were lucky enough to work with Essex County Cricket players Paul Walter, AdamWheater, Mark Pettini, and Kelly Castle, as well as Nick Hobbs and Terry Charrington who are Essex coaches and our staff members, Mr Prior, Mr Mickleburgh, Mr Wingrove and Mr Rees on regular occasions. Students made good use of our indoor cricket nets and other facilities to get themselves fully prepared for the upcoming season. The Under 13 Girls’ team took part in the Lady Taverners indoor competition where they travelled to Chelmsford to play in Essex CCC indoor centre. The tournament was a 6-a-side format with every player getting a chance to bat, bowl and field. In the preliminary round our girls did fantastically well, captained by Sophia Mitchell and won both their games against Bancroft’s School to progress to the 1st round proper. When we returned again our girls put in a great performance to beat local schools like Notley High and Passmores but unfortunately the girls came up against a very talented St Martin’s team to just miss out on a place in the regional finals. This coming season we are hopeful to be able to have a summer season take place with all our age group sides taking part in their respective Essex Cup competitions as well as some sides taking part in the new Independent Schools League as well as numerous other opportunities for as many of our students as possible to take part in Cricket. By Mr Prior Athletics The U12 Girls’ Athletics team demonstrated outstanding potential at the Lee Valley Indoor Athletics competition in January 2020. The team worked extremely hard to prepare for the heats and finals of the competition and supported one another throughout their training and the competition - a great team effort from all! There were outstanding performances on the track from Lizzy Oliver, who won her 60m hurdles race in 11.13s and Jemimah Knightbrige in the 800m, who won her race in 2.39.00. The field athletes did not let the speedy track stars outshine them with an incredible performance from Trinity Baptist to win the Shot Putt with 8.42m, and a brilliant second place from Skye Lake in the High Jump who leapt to a height of 1.30m. All pupils did incredibly well and have so much potential as a year group. We cannot wait to see you all back on the track soon!
