Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020
70 Mrs Shuff and I tried our best in the Staff Vegetable Carving Competition. Now, I am sure you will agree that Mrs Shuff’s turtle is absolutely amazing, but perhaps you may not completely recognise the animal that I carved out of a carrot. Perhaps the fun is in guessing what it is! To round off an incredible year for West House, the remote Track and Field Day took place on 24th June. Mr Heard took part in many sporting events (yes - he can do BOTH Music and Sport!) and Mrs Shuff also did a few events that her baby bump permitted! Thank you to all staff and pupils who took part on the day. My favourite photo from the day was Will Johnson sprinting along his street in the egg and spoon race: There were some amazing individual results on the day and here are a few of them: • Step Challenge: Florence Willett, Anna Romhany and Tara Acher all scored 69 steps in one minute • Mountain Climbers: Scott Trimble scored an amazing 220 in one minute! (Mrs Wall only managed 121!) • Noah Miller did exceptionally well in the Agility Challenge • Standing Stork: Amelia Skinner obviously has superb balance and blew everyone else out of the water by managing to hold her stork for a total of 1213 seconds! Gerry Tegede also did very well managing 706 seconds. • Well done to Elliot Gibson who smashed it in the Alternate Ball Toss with a score of 72. Good hand-eye coordination there! He is also a talented ‘Handstander’ and held one for 20 seconds. • Daniel Abebe came out on top with a fantastic score of 40 in the Burpees event. • Owen Romhany excelled in the Speed Bounce event, scoring 126 in one minute! He also scored a fantastic 7 metres 10 cm in the Standing Triple Jump. • In the Press Up Challenge we also excelled - the Queen of Press ups is Greta Simkute (1st) managing 83 and the King of Press Ups is Daniel Abebe with a score of 85! • Both David Faud and Noah Miller scored 21 in the Shuttle Runs • Nobody beat Mr Dean in the 15 minute Running Challenge - he managed to run 3920 metres however, Max Porteous came very close with 3830 metres. • Oscar Owens had a fantastic result in the Egg and Spoon Race with a score of 13 seconds! • Umar Hashim year scored an incredible 178 skips in the Skipping Challenge • The At Home Rounders Event top Westie was Adam Apostol with a score of 85 • Ellis Sooprayen is a talented juggler and scored 171 in the Juggling Event • Florence Willett’s score in the Hittie Uppie Event was 200! • I hope that Max Tomlinson doesn't mind when I call him a ‘Top Plank’! He managed to hold the plank position for 4 minutes and 10 seconds! • Benji O’Riordan has incredibly fast feet and scored 16 in the Fast Feet challenge • I am really impressed with Lois Hall’s score of 121 in the Keepie Uppie Challenge • Abigail Rice is obviously used to getting her chores done super quickly, as she managed to pin out 10 pieces of washing in 21.8 seconds. • I cannot even manage to do one cartwheel without falling over, but Victoria Tyrer-Jolley managed 35 in the Cartwheel Challenge! • The Haka Challenge was won by Miss Lake with a fantastically choreographed performance. The Romhany and O’Riordan families also did fantastic Hakas. Many West House Staff also took part and a big thank you goes to: Miss Bishop Miss Selfridge Mr Dean Mrs Rodgers Miss Lake Miss Farrugia Mr Irvine Mrs Hill As you have heard me say many times before “Participation is all”. I strongly believe that. The reason why West House has been so successful in competing in events (and having lots of fun while doing so!) is because every one of you pulls together as a team. The team effort on Track and Field Day meant, as defending champions, we once again triumphed and ended up winning. Again! Thank you to all the fantastic Westie pupils and staff for making the House a lovely community to belong to. I am very lucky to have the privilege of leading you all as your Head of House.
