Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020

76 Deputy House Captain, Sam Blundell, flourished in his role, creating history by leading the most successful online event during Lockdown. Sam said:“Wow, what a great year it’s been! I’ve always been proud to be a Wealdite, but being a part of the fantastic House Captain team has highlighted just how special and together we are as a House. For me, the highlights have been the House Music Competition, where the levels of participation in the Unison exceeded even our highest expectations, and the House Fifa competition, which was something I was especially proud of having run it throughout Weald week. I can list many more events too, to which I have been simply happy to watch and be inspired by, particularly the charity work carried out, which even continued throughout the lockdown! I can’t thank Mr Wright and all the teaching staff enough for the last year in helping us all be the best House Captains we can be and I wish everyone the very best of luck for next year!” If you didn’t get to know Deputy House Captain, Cassie Peacock, then you missed out on meeting one of the nicest students that has ever been to Brentwood School. Cassie had to say: “From right at the start of the year, conducting House Music to now, and that amazing Sports Day, you have all done us proud! I am so happy to have been a part of Weald House and am very sad to have to say goodbye. Keep being great and getting involved and we will all still be supporting you from wherever we will be!” Last, but by no means least, the brilliant House Captain, Jodie Bradley, wrote: “Although it got cut short being House Captain, it has been one of the most rewarding things ever - getting to know students from different years and being part of the best community ever. I could not be more proud of how our House has done this year! Finally, make sure you take every opportunity you can to make a difference and get involved, because as 2020 has proven, it’s way too easy to take things for granted.” When I hear the following quote by Christopher Reeve I think of House Captain Jodie Bradley “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Jodie did everything anyone ever asked of her and with the most dedicated and passionate attitude. And, along with the other House Captains, they are not only the Weald 2020 heroes, but the reasons why we retained the House Cup. Sports Day was the icing on the cake to an incredible year. I hope you have recognised that this year winning the House Cup is secondary to what we have all experienced. But, to have had the most sign-ups across every House Week, then again in the Sports Day AND to have had the most competitors across all of the House events this year are titles we can be immensely proud of. It was the challenge I set you in the opening assembly to be the House that sets the standard, and you smashed it. Really well done. I would like to thank all of you for relentless commitment and enthusiasm over this year and how you raised your game during virtual learning. We can be proud of creating history with our virtual House week. I would like to wish farewell and the very best luck to all the students and staff that are leaving us - you will always be a Wealdite and an Old Brentwood - do visit and keep involved in our extended community. Finally, I would like to thank the two deputies, Miss Martin and Mr Clark, without both of whom I would not have been able to lead Weald House. Their passion, commitment and love for Weald is genuine and they have rightly been promoted to bigger and better things. I am forever grateful for your guidance and support. You two are arguably the most important reasons as to why Weald has been the most successful House in the last decade - thank you. I will leave you with one more quote by Alber Camus, “In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” For me, in this challenging year, my ‘summer’ has been because of you Weald House. Thank you. Stay classy Weald. #wheretheresawealdtheresaway By Mr David Wright - proud Head of Weald House
