Brentwood School - Brentwoodian 2020

79 Similarly, this year I ran the Ensemble section which performed my arrangement of Grease Medley . Before school started, I came in for the 10 days leading up to beginning of term to write the three-and-a-half minute arrangement, which was performed by Amelia Blee, Mark Godley, Connor Bartell, Abhinay James, Alex Lockyer, Ellie Williams, Jack Williams, Nat Hughes, Cerys Jenkins, Charlie Stanbrook and myself. The medley included the songs Grease, Grease Lightning and You’re the One that I Want . These students recorded themselves playing to an extremely high standard, playing the dynamics, speed and rhythm very well. Similar to Part-Song, it is very hard to record yourself when you cannot in fact hear the other performers, so I am very proud and grateful to all of you who took part. Thanks to the dedication of musicians in South, we came 2nd in the Ensemble Section, scoring 39 out of the possible 40 points. Finally, the section South was most successful in was Unison, which included all the students in First Year, and many Upper Sixth. This section was run by fellow Vice- Captain, Tiggy Coyne, as well as Surya James and Melissa Morton. In the week leading up to the recording of the song Mr Blue Sky , the song was rehearsed in groups of up to 15 pupils, and the three section leaders worked very hard to raise the morale and enthusiasm of students. The song was then recorded on Monday and Tuesday in the Music Department's new recording studio before being put together for the video released on Friday. All the hard work put in for this section paid off in the end, as South came first in Unison, with 19 out of a possible 20 points. Overall, South came in joint second place with Weald, each of us earning 93 points. This is an achievement the whole House should be proud of, so well done to all the students who took part and well done to all the section leaders! A great start to the year! Finally, a message from this year’s House Captain, Callum Balsom: “I’m very proud to be appointed as South House Captain and am excited for the year ahead. For the last six years I have understood what a strong community South House is and I’m very much looking forward to working with everyone this year.” I look forward to reporting more success next year!
